SSRC Challenges - 2018
This is completely optional and just for fun. If thinking about this makes the exchange more stressful for you, you can completely ignore it!
Below the cut are a list of themes, fanwork types, etc., in the style of the Agent Carter vintage world. We, as a community, can "win" a challenge by having at least that many fanworks that meet the criteria in the collection when it goes live on June 8th. For example, if the collection includes at least 2 vids on June 8, then we can mark off the Silver Screen challenge!
This is exchange-wide, not individual, and there are no prizes (though I'll see if I can come up with something, a blue ribbon if nothing else :D).
One fanwork can fulfill multiple challenges if it fits all of them, e.g. a femslash vid including Peggy doing spy stuff would fit Silver Screen, Ladies Night, and Peggy’s Spy Kit (and possibly more).
Inspiration was taken from the Star Wars themed challenges in the May the 4th exchange and the bingo cards in Trick or Treat. (I think looking at the bingo card makes the general idea easier to understand.)
It’s not that you HAVE to include any of these things (let alone try to cram it all into the same fic or art or vid - PLEASE NO), and it’s not that you have to write extra fics/make extra art/etc., above and beyond your assignment, unless you want to. But if you’re looking for inspiration and you’re thinking “well, if I included an airplane in my story, then we’d get to check off that challenge on the list!” or “Hmm, there are 7 F/F stories in the archive already, so if I write one more, we’ll have enough to win the Ladies Night challenge!” … that’s what this is for. Just fun and additional inspiration, if needed. :)
List of Challenges
Silver Screen: 2+ vids
Howard's Terrifying Series of Wall Portraits: 5+ artworks
Couples Events
Ladies Night: 8+ F/F
Gentleman's Club: 5+ M/M
Tracy & Hepburn: 5+ F/M
Swing Your Partner: 3+ poly
Hays Code: 10+ gen
Success levels for treats
A "treat" is an extra fanwork in addition to a participant's assigned gift
Distinguished Service Cross: 5+ treats in the collection
Navy Cross: 10+ treats in the collection
Medal of Honor: Everyone who signed up has a treat
Terrors from the Labs
Peggy's Spy Kit: 3+ fanworks including spy gadgets
(Peggy's wiki entry has an incomplete list - scroll down to "Espionage Gear." You can use a canonical one, make up your own, or borrow from other shows/books/movies like James Bond, Get Smart, Batman, etc.)
Howard's Lab: 2+ fanworks including Howard's inventions
(There is a list of Howard's inventions at his wiki entry - scroll down to "Howard Stark's Designs". You can use a canonical one or make up your own.)
Creature Feature: 2+ fanworks including B-movie monsters (e.g. werewolves, zombies, Godzilla, etc)
(The 2018 Spook Me creature list is a good source for these!)
Call Sheets:
- 1+ fanwork set in a character's past
- 1+ fanwork set in a character's future, at least 10 years post-show
- 1+ fanwork set during WWII
Location Scouting:
- 1+ fanwork set in London
- 1+ fanwork set in the USSR
- 1+ fanwork set in a state or country that has never appeared in the show
- 1+ fanwork using a real place in New York or L.A.
Other creative inspiration
Purple Heart: 5+ fanworks tagged hurt/comfort
Cameos: 2+ crossovers or fusions
Perils of Pauline: 3+ fanworks involving daring rescues or characters tied to railroad tracks/time bombs/etc.
La Brea Tar Pits: 1+ fanwork tagged time travel, time loops, or including the actual La Brea Tar Pits
USO Tour: 1+ fanwork involving show business
Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines: 1+ fanwork including airplanes
Star Spangled Man with a Plan: 2+ fanworks including Steve Rogers
Rogers & Hammerstein: 1+ fanwork using music of the era, or dealing with the musical interlude in the show
Star Sightings: 1+ fanwork including real historical figure(s) - spycraft, stars, etc.
Flappin' at the Flamingo: 1+ fanwork including Bernard. (Virtual bonus points if Jarvis has to chase Bernard. Or Bernard chases Jarvis.)
As we go along, I'll mark off challenges as they are "won". At the end, when works are revealed, I may ask for some help figuring out some of the less obvious ones (i.e. all I have to do is look at the tags to see how many F/F stories we have, but figuring out how many include daring rescues or are set in other countries is likely to be harder).
Remember, ALL OF THIS IS OPTIONAL. If you're thinking it looks too complicated to be fun, don't worry, all you need to focus on is your assignment!

I'm sorry the notifs didn't work as they should. :(
That's good to known about making private posts public, though, because I DO sometimes do that (though I don't think I've ever done it in this comm, so far) and I didn't realize it doesn't send a notif when you do that - or might not anyway. Knowing that people are tracking this comm, I'll make sure that I don't.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)Not everybody know about private postings not sending up notifications in email boxes and not appearing on top of the friends page. I realized this when I was on a comm run by several mods, I was getting all the mod email notif except whenever one mod in particular was doing the posting: some time later, while scrolling the comm, I saw all their 'missing' posts right there and investigated to find what was going on. I've learnt later that they only posted private posts then switched them as public view later. I lost my chance to participate a gift exchange because of this, so this information got stuck with me.
