Rules update and text-based tag list

I've made a few minor edits to the SSR Confidential rules:

- I've added vids as an option for type of fanwork (the minimum is 1 minute of vid)
- The art minimums have been adjusted somewhat. The minimum for icons has been bumped up to 10 (from 6) to bring it more in line with the amount of effort required to make the other items. Gifsets are also an option now: minimum of 2.

I would welcome input from artists and vidders on whether they think these minimums are fair! I'm a vidder and so I know how much time it takes to make one minute of vid, but you also need a certain amount of vid to make a decent gift.

Tag set nominations are proceeding smoothly! At this point I have wrangled all the nominated tags. Under the cut is a complete list of characters and relationships nominated so far.


A note on names: Ana/Anna Jarvis's name is listed differently in most official sources (Ana) than it is in AO3's canonical tags (Anna). Either version is fine when you nominate relationships involving her. I'm not trying to make them match.

Thanks for writing out the list. I find the tagset difficult to read.

I know this will make matching a pain, but is it possible to separate out icons and gifsets from art? Personally, I'd be very interested in hand/computer drawn art, but am basically uninterested in icons or gifsets (especially the latter). You could have one called graphics? Or something.

Yeah, the tagset is an enormous gold-plated pain-in-the-ass to read! Due in part to having "Relationship" appended to every pairing tag ... but that makes everything ELSE so much easier ...

I am definitely open to trying on the art. The problem is figuring out exactly how to break it down. Some people have a strong preference for hand-drawn art over manips, too. I'm really not quite sure how to deal with it, though I'm open to suggestions, and I'll think about what might work. (I've seen the "art" vs. "graphics" divide in other exchanges, I think ...)

I am sorry to have so many opinions! but I feel like manips usually are seen as belonging to the graphics tag in these setups? As you say some people will really just want drawn art, whether drawn on paper/canvas or on a tablet. I think tablet-drawn is what people think of when talking about digital art these days, and manips are a different thing more similar to the icons skill set.

That's fine - I can easily adjust those categories. I don't know how it's normally done (I am old school - I don't think I've run an exchange since multi-fanworks became the norm instead of fic-only or art-only) so it's good to know what people will expect and want!

Okay, so, I've provisionally redone the rules (the changes are mostly in the "minimums" section) and split it up into Fic, Vids, Art (Drawn/Digital) and Art (Graphics). I may continue to tweak the categories, and exactly what goes in each of them, between now and signups, but this seems like a workable division to me.

Yeah, you're not alone - Bernard the flamingo (and Stark's menagerie in general) was enough of a running joke in the first few episodes that I thought it was going to actually play a plot role later in the season ... but no. Entirely possible to do it in fic, though!

I agree with 1min minimum for a vid. It's long enough for a gift, but short enough that it's possible to actually finish a vid within the timeframe.

I think these are good requirements, and I think, if possible, the art could be categorised: vids, traditional/digital art & graphics (which comprise edits, gifs & icons).

If I choose "art", does that include gifsets? I can't watch most animated gifs or vids and would need a way to exclude those.

I may continue to tweak the categories, and exactly what goes in each of them, between now and signups, but this seems like a workable division to me. That way, if you don't want gifs you could avoid that by excluding the Graphics category (though you's also lose wallpapers and icons).

ETA: Obviously input is still welcome; this is all tentative. :D Do you think that'll work?

Oh and far as art minimums I think steps that should be completed might be useful? Image size is pretty easy to fudge but I've seen things like, should be drawn on non-lined paper, should be inked and/or coloured.

That's a good point, I'll think about what the exact definition of a "finished" piece of art should be, for my purposes.
